Different Types of Depression

Depression isn’t simple. Depression can fester and get worse over a long period of time without being noticed . It’s known that some 15 million people in America will be impacted by some type of depression each year. Unfortunately fewer than 1/3 of these people will look for help for their depression. Often the sufferers don’t even know they’re sick. Every day stress is common in the modern world. It’s more difficult to navigate the obstacles in life. Hand to mouth survival is common. Trouble in the economy has made it more difficult than ever to keep a good job. Stress leads to depression.

There are a lot of types of depression. Many of the types have similar names and meanings. These include medical depression, clinical depression and manic depression. There is also severe depression that alludes to the final stages of the disease. Many things cause depression. One of these is simple biology, brain chemistry issues. Depression can also be caused genetically from your family history. If your grandfather and father suffered bouts with depression than you may be at risk to suffer it as well.

Common factors can lead to different types of depression. Depression is often the result of substance abuse. Rather it is alcohol or drug abuse, both has shown evidence to depression. The death of a family member can increase the chance for depression. Mental depression historically has a stigma associated with it. Before being classified as a disease it was thought to be a defect in character. As a result treatment wasn’t applied in a way that could help the patient. Each depression phase has it’s own negative results. Therefore treatment requires early detection.

When depression becomes severe depression then medical care is a must. At this stage suicide is often the result. The opportunities for help have passed because the cries for help haven’t been heard. Treatments include a combination of talk therapy and prescription drugs. Also available are support groups that can help. Natural herbs have also been found to work. There are options available to those who suffer from all types of depression. If you or someone you love are experiencing symptoms of lingering depression please consult a medical professional for diagnosis and treatment.
